SALTA

The beautiful and well preserved buildings from the colonial era make it worth to stay a couple of days. It is also the starting point to the mountain villages and canyons of the north-west.

CACHI

The journey to this mountain village in the south-west of Salta leads through attractive landscapes. This little village seems to be quite wealthy, thanks the constant stream of visitors.

CAFAYATE - QUEBRADA DE LAS FLECHAS AND QUEBRADA DE LAS CONCHAS

There is no direct bus connection between Cachi and Cafayate. I therefore joined four other travelers and together we hired a taxi for 330 Pesos  ($ 105) for this five hours trip which included several stops. The only alternative would have been to go back to Salta and then take another bus to Cafayate which is located in the south. After this manner however, visiting Quebrada de las Flechas would have been an additional trip.

Between Cachi and Quebrada de las Flechas

Quebrada de las Flechas

The Quebrada de las Conchas is located en route from Cafayate to Salta. Commencing at kilometer 12 they drag on for about fifty kilometers. Cafayate offers trips lasting five hours, which include visits of the most intersting spots and provide some time to walk and linger. It is worthwhile to rent a car in Salta or a taxi in Cafayate and discover the canyon. The area offers much more than what is possible to see during the time available. The town is very pleasant and moreover, beside Mendoza it is also popular for its wine.
